Mattress Sizes
There are so many different choices for a consumer when it comes to picking out a mattress. Not only do mattresses come in various types of styles and materials but the come in a variety of sizes. There is a different size mattress made with all different sized people in mind. Read along as we discuss approximate mattress sizes and the ideal candidate for each particular mattress size.
Twin Size Mattress – Its measurements are typically 39” x 75”. A twin bed is most suitable for smaller children, as this is the smallest of all the mainline sizes. Sheets for a twin size bed are on the inexpensive side, but the most obvious drawback is the fact that it cannot comfortable fit a normal sized adult. However, the size is ideal for most kids. Twin size mattresses are also great for bungalow beds that must fit compactly into tight spaces. This type of bed is not recommended for many other uses, as it will result in a difficult night’s sleep.
Extra Long Twin Mattress – The dimensions for this mattress are usually 39” x 80’’. This size is almost only common on college campuses. When you send your kids away from your home to take on the rigors of academia, this is what they will most likely be sleeping on. This specific size mattress is notoriously difficult to find sheets for. This type bed is not ideal for guest rooms or home furnishing, but it is excellent if you wish to pack many people into the same room. You will only have enough shoulder-to-shoulder width for one normal sized adult, and even that may be pushing it.
Full Size Mattress – The dimensions for this bed is 54” x 75” in most brands. A Full sized bed, otherwise known as a double, is seen as the next step up from a Twin XL in the mattress sizes. It can fit two people somewhat, but the main problem is that it is still not quite wide enough to fit most average adults. As it is only about 1.5 feet wider than the Twin, you won’t be picking up a whole lot more space. The good parts about this size are the facts that it makes a great guest room option, the sheets are very easy to come by, it fits too people (comfortably or not), and you can still easily maneuver this through the house with ease.
Queen Size Mattress – The dimensions are commonly found to be 60” x 80”. This is the bed that most adults sleep on. If you go to a guest room or most hotel rooms, then this is probably what you will find. For couples that live in smaller master bedrooms, this bed size is ideal. In addition to that, the Queen bed will fit two normal sized adults rather comfortably, while at the same time not being too difficult to maneuver through the house. Though taller adults might struggle, most will be happy with this mattress size.
King Size Mattress – Dimensions for this bed are approximately 76” x 80”. The King sized bed is known as the “master room bed”, for the simple fact that most master bedrooms have these mattress sizes. The King size bed comfortably fits two (or three) people with plenty of rolling room in between. Sheets for these mattress sizes are rather easy to find, as this is a very common size. The King size bed may still be too short for very tall adults. One major drawback is the fact that it is so large that it might be difficult to arrange furniture around and fit into smaller homes.
California King Size Mattress – The dimensions for this bed are usually 72” x 84”. The California King is perhaps the largest bed of them all. Any size larger than this, and you will have to have it custom made or modified. This size is for very tall adults who want a lot of spreading room. Of course, due to its sheer mass, these mattress sizes will be very difficult to get into most houses, and impossible to move into smaller houses (without knocking down a wall or two). The California King Sized mattress is considered the ultimate luxury sized mattress.
